about
Dave talks in riddles:
“I’m not really sure how this came about; I think it started life as an improv. I used to have this thing called ‘This, That and The Other’, which was a guitar solo in three separate sections, and each section used a similar musical theme but using different guitar effects for each section: ‘This’ was slide guitar, ‘That’ was volume pedal and delay, and ‘The Other’ was a really dirty ebow with overdrive and phase shift. Anyway, the volume pedal and delay swelling effect, which was used in ‘That’ along with the melody, was recycled for the first section of ‘Horror Theme!’
The second section, when you get to the organ, is mainly down to Dan. I really love how it builds on the atmosphere and intensity. It’s nice to use the ebow and slide together on the guitar even if it is for the briefest amount of time.
I always thought this was a typical sort of Where-sounding instrumental, and have always enjoyed playing it.”
